NCOBC Clubhouse

The current North Central Ohio Beagle Club was started in October of 1999 in a barn at the residence of Brian Atkinson. In 2002, NCOBC joined the Mid West Gun Dog Association. Since 2004, we have held many association and licensed trials.

NCOBC operates in the Greater Marion County Ohio area (predominately LaRue,OH). Our headquarters are shared with the Marion County Coonhunters Club in a large one room schoolhouse. Camping on clubhouse grounds is permitted, however water is very limited. Sorry, no kennel space is offered so bring your tie-outs.

Our running grounds are leased to us by local farmers and are typically of rolling terrain, brushy fields, fence rows, woodlots and small swamps. Hounds are cast in the wild and judged on hunt. Rabbits are very plentiful on our running grounds. However, so are woven wire and barbed wire fences, Whitetail Deer, Coyote, Grey Fox and occasionally even a Red Fox.

We are currently holding two Licensed SPO on Cottontail and usually one MWBGA Derby Trial per year. Participants culminate from various geographical areas – West Virginia, Indiana, Michigan, Kentucky, Ohio, Illinois, New York, Maryland, South Carolina, Iowa. Our licensed trial attendance generally ranges from 100-160 entries for the entire event and derby trials have averaged 55 entries for both classes. Licensed trials are offered as a two day event to help reduce the inconvenience on attendees work and family schedules.  NCOBC prides itself on the amount of game available and the clubs effeciency of time. To date, only one 15" male class has required a second day to finish the winners pack. This was a class of 64 entries in 2004.

If you would like to join our club and the Mid West Beagle Gundog Association, contact the club secretary listed in the Club Members Page (at the top of this page, the dog stops and barks on it!). Mid West members are eligible for entry into association derbies/ qualifiers and receive points from both licensed and qualifying trials toward yearly Mid West High Hound Awards.

Weather leading up to our trials can be viewed at this website Local Weather.
